I believe personalized learning is something we all internalize and develop as we learn. I wish to become a teacher who is able to empower my students to advocate for their own personalized learning needs, but first of all to become aware of and explore what those might be. Towards that end, this course may open up the doors to using tools I had not considered or were not comfortable using.
For example, I have not yet tried using any of the popular ai programs such as chat gpt. I know they exist and that it is basically a way to search all the corners of the internet and that it gives information to you instantaneously in a sometimes opinionated way(?). I actively chose not to use it because it feels unnecessary, and I would rather spend the time to learn all the little things I might pick up on the way there as well. Not to mention it seems that the use of these AI are not only seen as a “crutch” in social life, but also it appears that the centers that they operate from tend to displace residents of the area, accelerating gentrification, or using an obscene amount of resources. I have found few or no good reasons to begin using them and have found many reasons not to, which is likely why I have never used them yet.
I wish to explore how to use music to make language learning, specifically English, easier and more fun for children. I also would like to explore how music can be used in other areas of the classroom as well. Also what kind of music is important. Maybe instead of having children make posters with traditional paints and pencil crayons, they could make a social media short video, using snapshots of cinematography and music they produced themselves? I imagine these kind of ideas may be more easily realized after learning about social media in this course. I have very little experience with it so far.
On that note, this class may be turbulent for me as I am unused to checking varying online notification systems at once, or rather making a habit of doing so will be difficult for me. I often forget to simply check Brightspace, so adding new apps and sites I need to check in on is pretty foreign for me. Maybe I can just make it open on start up and see how that goes. My laptop is old and only has 3-9mb of space so trying to find things to delete to install something is very tedious, so I may have to keep using Microsoft Teams from my phone instead.
I have already taken the time to read many people’s introductions in Teams and it seems a few have an interest in music as well. Maybe I will ask them to group up with me, as I read that there is some group work that will happen at some point.
Thank you for your patience = )
